Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

with Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman, Samuel L Jackson, and Ian McDiarmid brings full circle the Star Wars series. The final (maybe) chapter in George Lucas' amazing vision--we find out how Darth Vadar become Vadar and how the twins were born and separated and why they went to which families to be raised in secrecy. Dialogue isn't Lucas' forte--the love scenes between Portman as Padme and Christensen as Anakin are duds, dialogue stiff in parts, but the action is there and you get "the rest of the story." McDiarmid as Palpatine is one bad dude. Visuals are spectacular.

Crash

with Don Cheadle, Sandra Bullock, Matt Dillion, Brendan Fraser and Jennifer Esposito is an incredibly intense movie woven with connecting stories. Whites, black, Latinos, Iranians, Koreans, criminals, cops, rich, poor, weak and powerful in one big stew. Fear is also a common denominator, causing wrong interpretations from culture to culture. Strong performances by all.

Hotel Rwanda

with Don Cheadle, Nick Nolte, Sophie Okonedo and Joaquin Phoenix takes us back to 1994, not a very good year. Over a million members of the Tutsi tribe were slaughtered by members of the Hutu tribe. Cheadle's character, Paul Rusesabagina, is a hotel manager and a Hutu (married to a Tutsi). Cheadle plays him well, receiving an Academy Award® nomination for his role as the steady competent manager in the midst of total chaos. With his strength and vision, over 1200 men, women and children were saved while the world looked on, doing twiddley dit. Strong performances by all.

Wedding Crashers

is an outrageous comedy starring Vince Vaughn (Jeremy) and Owen Wilson (John) as divorce mediators with Christopher Walken, Rachel McAdams, Jane Seymour and Isla Fischer. Vaughn and Wilson are life long friends and have arrived at the solution to meeting women--crash weddings…and any wedding will do. The "big" wedding they crash happens to be for the daughter of the Secretary of Treasury (Walken)—the problem is, Owen's John falls for the bridesmaid. What follows is an off-the-wall weekend with an assortment of memorable characters.

Who Should See It?--This needs to be said—the movie is hilarious, and it has raunchiness woven throughout (some blatant, some not so). There is nudity, but it doesn't have the gross out humor of an American Pie, Old School or Anchorman. If Gramma is young, take her—otherwise, pass.--3½ Golden Eggs

FOR TEENS AND ADULTS

Finding Neverland
with Johnny Depp (nominated for Oscar), Kate Winslet, Dustin Hoffman and Julie Christie is about a boy and a man who never want to grow up. Depp is wonderful as J. Barrie, the creator of Peter Pan and Winslet plays the widow Sylvia, mother of a gaggle of boys who become Barrie's muse. Hoffman is a theatre owner who needs a hit and Christie plays Sylvia's Mom. As the movie progresses, Depp's character gets more involved with the boys—one of them, Peter announces he doesn't want a father… guess what Peter, Barrie/Depp doesn’t want to be a father, he wants to be your playmate. He adores Mom Sylvia, but if there is any sex, it's under a rug somewhere. No matter, it's a wonderful flick—perfect for all ages.

Sideways
with Paul Giamatti, Sandra Oh, Virginia Madsen, Thomas Hadden Church find our players in the grapevines … or at least on there way or selling the coveted liquid. Giamatti is Miles, a middle school teacher still stinging from his divorce and desperately trying to sell his novel titled The Day After Yesterday. His best pal is Jack (Church), a sometime actor who is getting married the next week. Miles gift to Jack is to take him on a weekend tour of the wine country. Miles loves wine and being depressed, almost boringly if that's possible, and Jack—will Jack loves women. The two meet up with a waitress and a pour girl at one of the wineries. And it goes from bad to worst. Some thought this was the best picture (lots of Oscar nominations); there is humor; but… I could hardly wait for it to end.

Father of the Bride
with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, Martin Short and Kimberly Williams is a fun flick that's as entertaining the second time around as it was the first. Dad's pride and joy announces that she's to be a bride. The antics that Martin takes the viewer through along with Keaton trying to keep him balance are a kick. Short as an oddball wedding consultant is the perfect seasoning for this comedy. A few bonuses, including an interview with Martin, Short and producers.

Combine with a little of Monsoon Wedding and you get the music and dancing (which is colorful and fun but without all the chrysanthemums).
