CHICAGO
with Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Richard Gere, Charles Riley, and Queen Latifah is about a pair of homicidal hoofers. It's film land's version of the hit play. Zellweger portrays killer wannabe showgirl Roxie Hart and steals the film. Zeta-Jones as the dancer done wrong Velma Kelly and Gere is the slick tap dancing sleaze bag attorney-all are excellent.
Who Should See It?
--young teens and up-it's a wonderful flick, in my top 5 for the year.
5 Golden Eggs.

THE LIFE OF DAVID GALE
with Kevin Spacey, Kate Winslet and Laura Linney is fairly easy to figure out where it's going. Spacey as David Gale plays a respected death penalty opponent and professor who finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. He's tried and convicted of a rape and murder of Constance, a fellow activist, and is a few days from Execution as the story begins. It then moves to flashbacks. Winslet plays a reporter (Bitsey Bloom) who works for a paper that Gale has sold his story to. Within a short period of time-will, it has to be with just three days to his execution-she learns that it's not all what it appears to be. How did Constance die and who did it? This movie was disappointing-I'm a Spacey fan, he needs better projects.
Who Should See It? --very mature teens; there is some nudity and dicey scenes….definitely not Gramma.

OLD SCHOOL
with Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn is strictly a dude movie. It's about three guys who don't want to grow up . . . a modern day Animal House with all the barf, fart and booze jokes you would expect in this type of a flick... If you liked Road Trip, Animal House, Dumb and Dumber or American Pie, this one is for you. It's not my cup of tea.
Who Should See It? —guys, and definitely don't take Gramma or kids.
1/2 Golden Eggs.

BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE
with Steve Martin, Queen Latifah, Jean Smart, Joan Plowright, Betty White and Eugene Levy. Martin plays a quasi down, divorced, and uptight tax attorney who pines for his ex-wife (Jean Smart). He befriends a woman (Queen Latifah) in a legal chat room and makes a date with her. The movie takes off-she's an ex-con that was set up and wants his help to unravel her record. A variety of obstacles are tossed in; Martin's tidy work (and home) life is turned upside down and inside out.
Bringing Down the House will most likely offend some, but it's a hoot. Reminded me of some of the dialogue and physical reactions that Martin displayed in
All of Me with Lily Tomlin. The audience I saw it with had a great time-exiting it, folks were smiling and laughing-nothing wrong with that.
Who Should See It? —teens and up, Gramma may get a kick out of it…go see.
3 Golden Eggs.

PIGLET'S BIG MOVIE
is a Disney production for young kids. The gang is all there-Tigger, Rabbit, Eyore, Kanga, Roo and of course, Pooh. The theme here is the importance of each friend-no matter size and shape. Because of Piglet's petit presence, he was often ignored or discounted . . . until he goes missing and his pals set out to find him. His pals from the Hundred Acre Woods learn that he is a valuable part of the gang. The kids in the audience I say it with (3-5) had a great time.
Who Should See It? —adults with the small fry.

THE HUNTED
with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro in kind of a mix of a Rambo and cat-and-mouse game . . . and never really takes off. Jones is a retired trainer of nasty special ops and Del Toro was one of his star assassins. Del Toro's mind becomes bent after his last assignment, who now gets his kicks by offing and gutting deer hunters. Lots of blood and guts, tracking, knife slashing and fighting. Both of these actors are great, but not in this movie. Pass.
Who Should See It? —if anyone, it will be the guys, definitely not a date flick.
